Hello fellow cat enthusiasts,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself, I am Karen
Pippet, the new secretary for ca-r-ma.org here in Halifax. I will be
responsible for getting the news of the chapter out to you, our
fantastic volunteers, fosters, caregivers, and adopters of our
lovely cats.

News this month:

- Meetings have been rescheduled for the FIRST THURSDAY OF
EVERY MONTH. The existing schedule of the first Wednesday
wasn't convenient for many members. It will probably still be held
in Clayton Park, between Sobeys and the Valhalla.

- Our treasurer has resigned, and the treasury position has been
filled by Andrew Wike. Thank you Andy! :) Any donations,
deposits, ticket sales or other financial business can be run by
him, his email is andrewjameswike at hotmail.co.uk.

- We are currently getting reduced spay/neuter costs from one
local vet, but are in the process of gathering a list of other vets in
HRM that would offer us a reduced rate, for a charitable receipt.

- Pamela, Andy and myself met this week with Sharon MacFarlane,
acting President of ca-r-ma, and Ellen Levine, head of fundraising
for the Federicton group, to discuss kitty business and to gain
knowledge about the pre-existing operations in Moncton and
Fredricton. We are enthusiastic about having a clinic, such as
Fredericton has had. These are one day events, with many cats
(they had 66 most recently) spayed/neutered, several vets and
veterinary technicians on board, and lots of volunteer help. The
clinic was a huge success in Fredericton, and would hopefully
bring in lots of interest here in Halifax.

- Cat rescues this year amount to a whopping 56 cats rescued!
Good job and congratulations go out to Pamela and her
assistants in the good work!

- Attention has been called to the purpose of our operation in
ca-r-ma. We would like to put focus on offering help to people
and their cats, but not necessarily taking the problem off their
hands. We are here for support and advice, and would like to help
in empowering people to individually become
cat-rescuer-extraordinaire. We do rescue cats, and put them
through the process from Trap-Neuter-Release/Rehome, but we
would love to empower each person that calls our organization to
help on their own, with our support.

- There is fantastic information available about TNR and all the
cat-world available o the websites for Neighborhood Cats,
AlleyCat Allies, and the San Francisco SPCA we would suggest
everyone take a look at.

- We are currently in need of volunteers! We need both
temporary and more permanent fosters, people with
transportation to take the kitties to the vet and back, as well as
help with fundraising, coordination, and raising awareness. I put
this in bold, because I would suggest, if nothing else, that
everyone try to get involved with some of the dates I will post
below, and try to encourage friends/family/colleagues/ random
acquaintances to get involved also. It doesn't hurt much, and it
really does wonders for one's feelings of self-satisfaction! Even
being able to offer an hour a month is huge in the long run.

-We would like to arrange to have a booth set up offering
information about ca-r-ma as well as to sell tickets for the
following dates and locations. If you think you have even an hour
to offer at any of these please let me know and we will try to
arrange to set something up.

Mic Mac Mall - November 15 (Saturday)
Maritime Mall - November 21 (Friday)
Sunnyside Mall - November 29 (Saturday)
Scotia Square - December 4 (Thursday)
Mic Mac Mall - December 5 (Friday)
Mic Mac Mall - December 11 (Thursday)
Maritime Mall - December 18 (Thursday)

- I personally have put forward the suggestion of making our
December meeting a pot-luck/informal Christmas party, which
would be held DECEMBER 4 (THURSDAY). I will email out again
later with time and location.

Thank you all for your interest, once again, do not hesitate to
contact me with any information, questions, or comments you
have.

Cheers,
Karen Pippet
