Urgently needed for the winter:

In order to help the cats in our community immediately, we need to protect
them from the cold. If you want to participate in our shelter-building
program, please click on the links below to obtain the requirements for a
proper cat shelter.

This one is from Neighborhood Cats in New York. Please note the
suggestion at the very bottom of the page - regarding how to line shelters
for extreme cold.

Alley Cat Allies gives you
3 more manuals/suggestions (titled "Preparing
Feral Cats for Winter"). Whatever your choice is, we suggest to line the
shelters with 'Mylar' in addition to any Styrofoam (as pointed out in the first
link by Neighborhood Cats).

Also, should you know of someone who might be willing to participate -
please print our the instructions and forward the information.

If you have questions and want to contact us, use
this form.
Thank you!

ca-r-ma was part of the NB SPCA’s 2nd Pet Expo that was held in
Fredericton from September 28th – 30th, 2007. During this time we were able to
schedule an extraordinary meeting with NB SPCA’s Vice-President Joy Bacon,
Executive Director Glen McGuire and the Chief Animal Protection Officer for the
province, Paul Melanson. This gave us the possibility to introduce ourselves and
our mandate and future mission.

The meeting was enlightening and we were able to share and gain a deeper
understanding of where our combined efforts can foster possible solutions.
Thank you all very much for your time and insights!

The National Feral Cat Summit 2007

was held in Orlando, Florida on November 10th, at the Orange County Convention
Center and presented by Neighborhood Cats from NYC. Jane Hoffman of the
Mayor's Alliance in New York City was the keynote speaker, joined by leaders in
the movement.

Our relentless Fredericton Team – Ellen Levine & Sharon MacFarlane - was sparing
neither trouble nor expense to be part of this event. The introduction of the latest
tools in feral cat care were making this summit a “must-attend” for everybody
involved in feral cats. Ellen, Sharon – thank you for being ca-r-ma’s eyes and ears!

2 WINTER ALERTs!

1.) A tap that saves lives AND your motor from damage: Before starting your
engine, check for any visitors as cats (and other animals) like to seek shelter
under the hood. Apart from the obvious, this can also save your car from damage.

2.) Please provide
water for outdoor cats! The chances of dehydrating are
especially high during the winter months while most water sources are frozen.
This is best done with cold water as it does not freeze as fast as warm water.
Maybe you can even find a way to insulate the water bowl...
