ca-r-ma.org- Cat Rescue Maritimes Cats
Several months ago, eight hungry, scrawny looking cats showed up at a home in the country. Ignoring their plight was not an option, so my husband and I began providing two feedings a day. We grew to love these felines even though we could not get near them and they began to rely on our generosity to survive.
One of the cats was a very small, young female diluted tortoiseshell. I thought she might be pregnant but she was so small it was hard to tell. She came for her meals twice a day. Then, three weeks ago, she brought her babies out for the first time. The excitement I felt quickly became panic when I realized we needed to trap these little babies immediately if we wanted to try and socialize them and prevent them from becoming feral cats for life. It took
my husband and me a week of trial and error before we were able to trap Mommy and babies.
The little ones were about eight weeks old and were afraid but they are coming around. It takes time to work with them and show them humans can be kind and gentle but it will be worth the effort in the end when they find their “fur-ever” homes.
The biggest surprise of all was the Mother Cat who we have named Skye. Within 24 hours of being in my company, she crawled up on my lap looking for love. Somewhere in Skye’s life she had been loved by someone. Why she ended up on her own scavenging for food will always remain a mystery to us but I am so glad we, at ca-r-ma.org,
are able to give her a second chance. Skye has been tested for feline leukemia, has been spayed and treated for parasites. She is now available to go to a wonderful loving home where the love her family gives her will be returned tenfold.
